NHS Direct

Anyone who has actually had to use NHS direct will know the benefits it brings. The ability to speak to a Nurse on the telephone. If you have children you may have used it. In fact 27,000 people a day use NHS Direct. That’s reducing the number of people calling at doctors Surgeries and A & E.

Living In Scotland we have our own version NHS 24 which as my wife is disabled we use regularly at weekends and out of hours. They are able to help when Medication runs out. This is handy as when you are on a number of medications.

Telephone triage seems to be the way forward our doctors surgery has introduced telephone appointments to reduce the number of emergency appointments being taken. Not sure it works as still hard to get an appointment quickly.

The main thing about NHS Direct is it is doing the job it was created to do and if it isn’t broke dont fix it. so sign the petition at Save NHS Direct.
